Jones Named to Lead HPG and Parallon

Parallon Business Solutions today announced, in conjunction with the HealthTrust Advisory Board, the appointment of Ed Jones to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of HealthTrust Purchasing Group (HPG) and Parallon Supply Chain Solutions. Jones has served in an interim capacity for both enterprises following the retirement in May of industry veteran Jim Fitzgerald.

Jones is responsible for the overall financial and operational functions of HealthTrust’s $20 billion global group purchasing portfolio, as well as strategic leadership for Parallon Supply Chain Solutions’ outsourced and consulting business. Previously, he held the position of chief operating officer of both enterprises, with direct oversight for all strategic sourcing, consulting, custom contracting, supplier diversity, global sourcing and regional operations.

For the past 30 years, Jones has held several operational leadership roles within HealthTrust Purchasing Group and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. Most recently, he led the successful restructuring and re-positioning of HealthTrust Purchasing Group into several businesses. During his career, he has directed successful mergers and consolidation plans; launched global sourcing operations; and introduced shared service and process improvement initiatives that have generated billions of dollars in cost savings.

Jones is a founding board member of the Health Sector Supply Chain Research Consortium, as well as a member of several leading professional organizations, including: the Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management, Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Federation of American Hospitals. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.

______

Although HPG is known as a GPO with excellent contract pricing, what often gets lost is why HPG has been able to compete so effectively. Simply put, it’s a different kind of animal. From innovative applications of spend analysis to purpose built category management solutions to programs that commit the volumes of its members, the company approaches the business of being a GPO without the constraints (e.g. tech phobia and certain tired philosophies about supply-side competition) that continues to encumber so many of its competitors.

BravoSolution and HPG have successfully collaborated on several groundbreaking initiatives. Under Ed’s leadership, look for more of the same. That’s a good thing for the industry.

Congratulations to Ed Jones.
